Announcers

I’m a baseball junkie. You might not know that given the relative lack of content on this ol’ blog, I know. I’m even a MLB Extra Innings subscriber, which is an incredible service.

But nothing is perfect. Getting to watch all the games during the week means getting the local broadcasters that go with it. As an example of how annoying this can be, the following conversation just took place on the FSN Detroit feed:

PlayByPlayGuy: “[yada yada yada] convoluted story about –”
ColorCommentator: “Whoa, what did you just say?”
PbPG: “Convoluted?”
CC: “Yeah, brother, let me pull out my dictionary here.”
PbPG: “I know, I really pulled that one out of my back pocket.”

Is this really where we’re at with television? Using the word “convoluted” is too much?

Does the fact that this annoys me make me one of those “elitists” everyone seems to talk about in politics? If so, I’m happy to be one.

Update:  The color commentator on FSN Detroit is former MLBer Rod Allen.
