Microsoft: Blu-Ray Not Happening

A Microsoft spokesperson denied reports that the company has plans to add a Blu-Ray drive to the Xbox 360.
“Xbox is not currently in talks with Sony or the Blu-ray Association to integrate Blu-ray into the Xbox experience,” Greenberg told Reuters in an interview.
Microsoft, which has stopped making an HD-DVD add-on for the Xbox 360, would continue to invest in its Xbox Live online service that already lets users rent hundreds of movies, including ones in high-definition.
Although this may just be the usual early denials of a party on the verge of a deal — if it isn’t, it is truly a short-sighted and bad decision by the software giant. Xbox 360 already has supply shortages. It doesn’t match the PS3 in the hardware department — or with these advanced features –and soon their prices will be near identical.

After the fall of HD-DVD, this might have been inevitable. But it’s a good sign that it’s happening so early.
I don’t want to fork over big money for a video game system and even more money for a High-Definition movie player. This is a smart move by Microsoft, who originally put their weight behind HD-DVD.
