Tra Thomas, Jon Runyan, the 2009 Off-Season

The choices the front office makes this off season will likely have important, lasting effects on the offensive line (and the entire offense) for years.  The choices, re-sign Thomas and Runyan, re-sign one of them, or let them both go and figure out what you have with Andrews, Herremans, Justice, and Dunlap (and perhaps a couple of the other young guys).

What would you do with the Eagles tackles?

I would try to keep at least one of them. THey aren’t the same players that they were, but it’s a big risk to have two brand new tackles. This is a team that obviously can do damage and these are risky positions to gamble with.

I would like them to keep one of them as well, though I go back and forth about which — I usually lean Thomas.

The Eagles do need to find out what they have with these young guys at some point. If one of Herremans, Andrews, McGlynn, or Dunlap works out you might get an anchor for the line for 10 years like Thomas.

And with that said, it’s important to note that Runyan and Thomas are not close to top-end tackles any more. They aren’t bad, but they aren’t going to be getting any better, either.
