Ohhh Kaayyy Then

Shawn AndrewsShawn Andrews is a weird dude.

“I had lunch or dinner at California Pizza Kitchen pretty much every day,” Andrews, who goes 6-5 and close to 340 pounds, said yesterday. “My dish was the Margherita pizza with mushrooms, green peppers and pineapples.

“Then it was a Cobb salad minus the grilled chicken, bacon and avocado, and tortilla soup. They even gave me a special parking space there because I came so much.”

Andrews, who describes himself as a “pescatarian,” said he stopped eating pork and beef 10 months ago and gave up chicken about 4 months ago.

I don’t know about you, but the thought of a “pescatarian” lineman doesn’t really compute.  Damn you, California.  Here’s hoping the Big Kid finds a way to keep his protein intake up.

And please, please Shawn — tell us that you still eat fish because “they don’t have nerves so they don’t feel pain!”.  That would really be the icing on the cake.

It has been a rough year for Andrews, no doubt.

Considering Andrews’ bout with depression, it had to be a concern that he was again away from his teammates and dealing with a serious injury on his own.

Andrews said he relied on a strong support group that he communicated with regularly.

“It sucked, man,” Andrews said. “I don’t ever want to have that feeling again, just the whole postsurgery thing – just sitting on that little table and feeling bad.

“It was kind of lonely out there and very boring.

And forget about Andrews playing again in 2008.  The guy is still on a “no bending, lifting, or twisting” prescription for his back.  He hasn’t lifted a weight since he was injured.  There’s no way he can get ready to play.

Here’s hoping Margherita pizza is good for the body and the mind, Shawn.  Get better.

Love the Margherita pizza, but no freaking pineapples.

Andrews seems pretty likable on top of being a great player, I hope 2008 doesn’t derail his entire career.
