What I’m Watching on Sunday (10-12-08)

Time to sneak in another edition of picks and quick thoughts on this week’s game.  Just a reminder, I’m 4-0-1 this season picking games with the spread.

In terms of the Eagles and Niners, I see this game as a low scoring contest.  Unfortunately for the Eagles, that may make David Akers a rather important piece of the puzzle, and there’s no reason to have any confidence in him at this point.

Watch to see if any of the Eagles wide receivers are able to get off the line of scrimmage easily against the Niners excellent cornerback duo of Walt Harris and Nate Clements.  If they can get into their routes and maintain timing with Donovan, the Eagles can take this one.

Carolina @ Tampa Bay (-2) — The NFC South is ugly.  It’s the modern NFL at its zenith — very minor differences between teams.  So this spread is pretty small.  But the Bucs are tough at home, especially their defense.  And Jeff Garcia is back at the helm and he’ll have their offense moving.  Expect the Bucs to win this one, give up the points.
